Big Oak Ranch
John Croyle and his wife, Tee, have seen their dream of building the best children’s home in America grow into three separate facilities in Northeast Alabama: Big Oak Boys’ Ranch in Gadsden, Big Oak Girls’ Ranch in Springville, and Westbrook Christian School, Inc. in Rainbow City.
New Futures Family Lodge
New Futures is a social services and community action agency committed to addressing the complex needs of homeless families in Huntsville and Madison County Alabama. Founded in 1990 and re-incorporated in 2010, New Futures operates the Marilyn V. Mabry Family Lodge through which it provides a lodging alternative for homeless families that cannot use local emergency shelters because of their composition: Intact families with minor children under age 18, single fathers with minor children and single mothers with sons over age 10. By keeping families together, the Lodge will enhance the positive outcomes for all family members.
New Futures, Inc. is working to also address the needs of homeless returning vets and is partnering with local agencies and service providers. By connecting residents with educational, job skills training and job placement opportunities, New Futures, Inc. will help homeless families and returning veterans to lift themselves from extreme poverty to independence. Ultimately, the entire community benefits from each successfully re-established individual.
American Red Cross
Since its founding in 1881 by visionary leader Clara Barton, the American Red Cross has been the nation’s premier emergency response organization. As part of a worldwide movement that offers neutral humanitarian care to the victims of war, the American Red Cross distinguishes itself by also aiding victims of devastating natural disasters. Over the years, the organization has expanded its services, always with the aim of preventing and relieving suffering.
